Wheel sizes explained

A wheel size like 20x9 +1 means a 20-inch diameter, 9 inches wide and +1 mm offset. Diameter and width decide which tires fit. Offset decides where the wheel sits in the fender.

Offset and backspacing

Positive offsetsits further inZero offsetpad on centerlineNegative offsetpokes outWHEEL SEEN FROM THE FRONT · ← VEHICLE SIDE | OUTSIDE → · GOLD = MOUNTING PAD · GRAY = HUB
  • Positive offset: the wheel tucks in toward the suspension. Most factory wheels.
  • Zero offset: the mounting pad is in the center of the wheel.
  • Negative offset: the wheel pushes out past the fender for a wider stance. Popular on lifted trucks, but it can rub and adds stress to the hub and bearings.
  • Backspacing is the distance from the mounting pad to the inner lip. More backspacing means the wheel sits further in.

Bolt pattern

The bolt pattern must match your hub exactly. 6x139.7 (also called 6x5.5) means 6 lugs on a 139.7 mm circle. Some common ones:

VehicleCommon bolt pattern
Chevy / GMC 1500, Toyota Tacoma & 4Runner6x139.7 (6x5.5)
Ford F-150 (2004 and newer)6x135
Jeep Wrangler JK / JL, Gladiator5x127 (5x5)
Ram 2500 / 35008x165.1 (8x6.5)
Ford Super Duty (2005 and newer)8x170
Chevy / GMC 2500HD / 3500HD (2011 and newer)8x180

Patterns can change by year and model. We confirm the fitment for your exact vehicle before ordering.

Other fitment details we check

  • Center bore: the hole in the middle must fit your hub. Hub-centric rings fill the gap on wheels with a bigger bore.
  • Lug nuts: aftermarket wheels often need different lug nuts (conical vs. flat seat).
  • Load rating: heavy trucks and towing need wheels rated for the weight.
  • Brake clearance: big brakes on HD trucks need enough room inside the wheel.
  • TPMS sensors: we move your sensors or install new ones so the tire-pressure light works.

Lifted and lowered trucks

Bigger wheels and tires on a lifted truck need the right offset and lift height to avoid rubbing. On lowered trucks, wheel width and offset decide whether the tire clears the fender and suspension. Tell us your setup and the look you want, and we'll match wheels, tires and the right lift or drop.
